G20 summit

  • The 14th G20 Summit took place at Osaka, Japan on June 28 and 29.
  • 19 members of the G20, except the US, reaffirmed their commitment to the "full implementation" of the Paris climate deal, agreeing to look into a wide range of clean technologies and approaches.
  • Leaders of the G20 proclaimed “Osaka declaration” to make united efforts to address major global economic challenges.
  • Ahead of the summit, JAI (Japan-America-India) Trilateral talk took place in Osaka.
  • Also, RIC (Russia- India-China) Trilateral talk took place.
  • Twenty-four countries and groupings signed a statement agreeing to the Osaka Track which was declared by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
  • India, Indonesia, Egypt and South Africa did not sign the declaration.
  • “Osaka Track” is a framework to promote cross-border data flow with enhanced protections.
  • This summit held under following 8 various themes:

2.Trade and Investment 6.Women’s Empowerment
3.Innovation 7.Development
4.Environment and Energy 8.Health
  • The first G20 meeting took place in Berlin, Germany in 1999.
  • The G20 Summit is formally known as the “Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy”.
