- Renowned social worker Shobhana Ranade, who met Gandhi when she was 18, passed away recently.
- She had dedicated her life to uplifting the underprivileged, especially women and children.
- She was awarded with the Padma Bhushan in 2011.
- She played a role in setting up the Gandhi National Memorial Society (GNMS) and a National Institute for Training Women at the Aga Khan Palace in Pune in 1979.
