- Two labs of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have initiated a genome sequencing project.
- They are
- Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB)
- Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB)
- They have planned to sequence at least 10,000 Indian genomes.
- Genomes will be sequenced based on a blood sample.
- The project serves two purposes
- Educating students on the “usefulness” of genomics
- To determine the unique genetic traits of the citizens and their susceptibility (and resilience) to disease.
