- The defending champions Germany were knocked out of the World Cup 2018 after they lost against South Korea 2-0.
- Though South Korea do not go through to the knock-out stages, the win is the first in their history against Germany.
- Germany are the fourth defending champions to be eliminated from the Group Stage at the World Cup in the last five tournaments (also France 2002, Italy 2010, Spain 2014).
