Three indigenous products from Arunachal Pradesh have been granted the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
They are Yak Churpi, Khamti rice and Tangsa textile.
Churpi is prepared from the milk of Arunachali yak.
It is a unique breed found in West Kameng and Tawang districts of the state.
It is reared by tribal yak pastoralists known as Brokpas.
They migrate along with their yaks to higher reaches (at an altitude of 10,000 ft and higher) during summers and descend to mid-altitude mountainous regions in winters.
Yaks cannot survive in lower altitude during summer.
And thus, they need to be taken beyond 13,000 ft.
The Khaw Tai is a chewy sticky rice variety of Namsai region.
It is cultivated by traditional Khampti tribal farmers.
Textile products of the Tangsa tribe of Changlang district are famous for their exotic designs and colours.
