- Three indigenous products from Arunachal Pradesh have been granted the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
- They are Yak Churpi, Khamti rice and Tangsa textile.
- Churpi is prepared from the milk of Arunachali yak.
- It is a unique breed found in West Kameng and Tawang districts of the state.
- It is reared by tribal yak pastoralists known as Brokpas.
- They migrate along with their yaks to higher reaches (at an altitude of 10,000 ft and higher) during summers and descend to mid-altitude mountainous regions in winters.
- Yaks cannot survive in lower altitude during summer.
- And thus, they need to be taken beyond 13,000 ft.
- The Khaw Tai is a chewy sticky rice variety of Namsai region.
- It is cultivated by traditional Khampti tribal farmers.
- Textile products of the Tangsa tribe of Changlang district are famous for their exotic designs and colours.
