Veteran actor, film director, critic of the right-wing policies, Kannada writer and playwright Girish Karnad (1938 – 2019) passed away.
Nagmandala, Yayati and Tughlaq are some of his most famous works.
Karnad served as the director of the Film and Television Institute of India from 1974–1975 and as Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Academy from 1988–1993.
He was awarded Padmashri (1974), Padma Bushan (1992), the highest literary honour Gananpith (1998).
