- The Global Carbon Project (GCP) has released a report titled ‘Global Carbon Budget’ for the year 2019.
- Established in 2001, GCP is an organisation that releases global budgets for three dominant greenhouse gases
- Carbon dioxide
- Methane
- Nitrous oxide
- The Atmospheric CO2 concentration in 2019 are 47% above pre-industrial levels.
- Global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and industry have increased every decade since 1960s.
- India’s emissions in 2019 (2.6 billion tonnes or giga tonnes) was likely to be only 1.8 per cent higher than in 2018.
- The slower rise in emission rates was linked to slower growth in economy.
