- 14th edition of the ‘Climate Risk Index 2019’, was released at the annual climate summit in Poland's Katowice city.
- It is an in-depth global analysis by German watch, an international organization based in Bonn, Germany.
- It analyses quantified impacts of extreme weather events – both in terms of fatalities as well as economic losses.
- As per the report, Puerto Rico, Sri Lanka and Dominica were at the top of the list of the most affected countries in 2017.
- India was ranked as the 14th most vulnerable country.
- With a 29% increase in deaths last year due to extreme climate events, India accounted for the second highest fatalities in the world.
- Between 1998 and 2017, Puerto Rico, Honduras and Myanmar were the countries most affected by extreme weather events.
- Massive rainfalls have led to floods across Nepal (4), Bangladesh (9) and India (14), which affected more than 40 million people.
