- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations recently released this report.
- The FAO brings out the report once in every five years.
- According to the report, India is ranked third among top 10 countries where forest cover has increased in the last decade.
- China is ranked at the top.
- The forest area managed by local, indigenous communities and tribal in India increased from zero in 1990 to about 25 million hectares in 2015.
- As per the report, the world has a 31% forest area of the total land area.
- Russia has a maximum forest area accounting 20% of global forest area followed by Brazil & Canada.
