India ranked 100th position among 119 countries on Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2017 report released by the Washington-based International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Compared to 97th rank in 2016 Global Hunger Index (GHI), this year it slipped by three positions.
Global Hunger Index
The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a multidimensional statistical tool used to describe the state of countries’ hunger situation.
The GHI measures progress and failures in the global fight against hunger and is updated once in a year.
The GHI ranks countries taking into account of four parameters on a 100-point scale. Zero is the best score and 100 is the worst.
The Four Parameters are,
Undernourishment
Child wasting
Child stunting
Child mortality.
India ranks 100 among 119 countries with a score of 31.4 and hunger situation is in the “Serious” category.
Over three-year duration, the country has seen a slide of 45 positions from 55 in 2014.
According to the report, India is better only than Pakistan and Afghanistan among the Asian countries.
