- India climbed up six places to the 60th spot among 130 nations on the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2017, emerging as the top-ranked economy in Central and South Asia.
- The index which is released by Cornell University, INSEAD and World Intellectual Property Organisation show India’s rise as an emerging innovation centre in Asia, although the country ranks far behind China which is at 22nd position.
- In order to make India an innovation- driven economy, NITI Aayog, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) together launched a mega initiative “India Innovation Index”
- India Innovation Index will rank states on Innovations through country’s first online innovation index portal that will capture data on innovation from all Indian states and regularly update it in real time.
