Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID 2021) is released by Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre
According to the report, there were 40.5 million new internal displacements in 2020.
This is the highest annual figure for 10 years.
These were triggered globally by disasters and violence.
9.8 million displacements were due to conflict and violence.
Weather-related events accounted for almost all of the 30.7 million disaster-led displacements last year.
Storms and floods caused the majority of displacements.
Cyclone Amphan, which made landfall in Eastern India and Bangladesh in May 2020, triggered around five million displacements across Bangladesh, India, Bhutan and Myanmar.
