- The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has released its Global Study on Homicide Report 2023.
- One in every five murders occurred in India between 2019-21 is due to water-related conflicts.
- Southern Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, and Central America have reported most such incidents.
- Nearly 20 percent of all interpersonal murders recorded in India in the period 2019–2021 can be attributed to conflict over water.
- As per National Crime Records Bureau report 2020, at least 232 Indians lost their lives in conflicts related to water in the period of 2017-2019.
