In its latest report, the UN body has forecast world sugar output to hit a record high at 187.6 million tonnes in 2017-18 and surpass consumption.
The anticipated surplus is likely to be the largest in history.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), it is caused due to increase in output in India, the EU, Thailand and China
Decreases in sugar output in Brazil and Australia are predicted to be offset by expansions in India, the EU, Thailand, and China
Sugar consumption growth will be particularly marked in Africa, Asia and South America
Exports are anticipated to fall in Brazil, the world's largest sugar producer and exporter; but to rise in Thailand, the second largest sugar exporter, prompted by abundant sugar stocks
