- The decision to celebrate the day was taken at the Saint Petersburg Declaration on Tiger conservation signed in 2010.
- The leaders attended this summit pledged to make efforts to double the tiger population by 2022.
- India has 70% of total tiger population in the world.
- This year it is celebrated with the slogan, “Their Survival is in our hands”.
