- The World Bank released the new report titled "Water for Shared Prosperity," at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia.
- Approximately 2.2 billion people around the world do not have safely managed drinking water services.
- 3.6 billion people do not have safely managed sanitation services, and 2.3 billion lack basic handwashing facilities.
- China and India, with 36% of the global population, hold only 11% of freshwater, while North America, with 5% of the population, possesses 52%.
- Globally, over 800 million people are at high risk of drought, with twice as many living in flood-prone areas.
- Water-intensive sectors account for 56 per cent of jobs in low-income countries but only 20 per cent in high-income countries.
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo has more than half of Africa’s total water resources.
- Hotspots in the Sahel, Southeastern Africa, and South and Central Asia are the most water stressed.
