- It was on this day in 1987 Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union.
- Before this, Goa, along with Daman and Diu, was a union territory.
- On 19 December 1961, the Indian Army invaded with Operation Vijay on Portuguese resulting in the annexation of Goa, and of Daman and Diu islands into the Indian union.
