Govt. reconstitutes a Multi-Agency Group to investigate Paradise Papers

  • Recently, ICIJ has released a document named Paradise papers which is mainly gathered from Aplleby, an offshore law firm.
  • The Paradise Papers are set of 13.4 million documents pertaining to tax evasion and offshore investment activities of some of the world’s most powerful people and companies from 180 countries.
  • The government reconstituted a Multi-Agency Group led by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairman to investigate cases relating to the ‘Paradise Papers’ data disclosure.
  • Earlier this Multi Agency Group was formed to investigate cases related to Panama leaks.
  • The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), and its Indian Partner The Indian Express has released this document.
  • Among 180 countries represented in the data, India ranks 19th in terms of the number of names that feature in the papers.

  • Its headquarters is in Washington DC, US.
