- It is a four-day global event.
- The first day of the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) began on a high note with citizens recording 251 bird species across Karnataka.
- It is an online citizen science or community science project.
- It was first launched in 1998 by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society.
- The importance of the event is that it helps the scientists better understand the global bird population before one of their annual migrations.
- The data is entered into eBird, the world’s largest biodiversity-related citizen science (community science) project.
