- The 351st birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and last Guru of Sikhs was celebrated on January 5.
- Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed as the leader of the Sikhs at age nine, becoming the tenth Sikh Guru

- Kara: an iron or steel bracelet worn on the wrist.
