- It was renamed by the Karnataka state government after freedom fighter Mahadeva Mailar.
- Already the Hubballi railway station of Karnataka was renamed as Sri Siddharoodha Swami Railway Station – Hubballi.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs under the Government of India had no objection to changing the name.
- The Government of Karnataka is to issue gazette notification on the spelling of the new name accordingly in Devanagari (Hindi), Roman (English) and the regional language.
