Highest ever FRP for sugarcane

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane.
  • 305 rupees per quintal was fixed for sugar season 2022-23.
  • The FRP for sugar season 2022-23 is 2.6 per cent higher than current sugar season 2021-22.
  • FRP of sugarcane is fixed to ensure a guaranteed price to sugarcane growers
  • The Government has increased FRP by more than 34% in past 8 years.
  • FRP are determined on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and announced by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
  • The FRP is based on the Rangarajan Committee report on reorganizing the sugarcane industry.
  • India has surpassed Brazil in the sugar production in the current sugar season.
