  • It is celebrated every year marking the declaration of Hindi language in Devanagari script as one of the two official language of Union government of India.
  • Hindi, along with English, are the official languages of India under Article 343 of the Constitution.
  • The first Hindi Diwas was celebrated in 1953.
  • World Hindi Day is celebrated on January 10.
  • On 14 September 1949, Hindi was adapted as official language in India.
  • The 14th September 1949 was the 50th birthday of Beohar Rajendra Simha.
  • Beohar Rajendra Simha, along with Hazari Prasad Dwivedi, Kaka Kalelkar, Maithili Sharan Gupta and Seth Govind Das, debated tirelessly in the Constituent Assembly and worked hard towards making Hindi the official language of India.
  • Hindi belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European family of languages.
  • The word "Hindi" is Persian in origin.
  • The first ever 'Hindi' poem was written by the eminent Persian poet Amir Khusro.
  • In 1977, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the first External Affairs minister addressed the United Nations General Assembly for the first time in Hindi.
  • In 1918, Mahatma Gandhi for the first time talked about making Hindi as the national language of India.
