- He wrote the book Odisha Itihaas in Ahmednagar Fort Jail.
- He was imprisoned here for two years between 1942 and 1945.
- Harekrushna Mahatab was the first Chief Minister of Odisha.
- He was popularly known as Utkal Keshari.
