- HKU5-CoV-2 is a newly discovered bat coronavirus that belongs to the merbeco virus subgenus.
- It also includes the virus responsible for the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).
- The Researchers are still unsure about the potential risk of animal-to-human transmission of the virus.
