- Prime Minister inaugurated 1,152 housing units situated in Perumbakkam of Chennai that were built using precast system.
- In the Precast system, structures like columns, beams, slabs, etc are manufactured in the factory and brought to the construction site.
- The Perumbakkam project is part of the Light House Projects (LHP) scheme under the Global Housing Technology Challenge.
- There is a total of six Light House Projects, including the Perumbakkam project in Tamil Nadu.
- The other five projects are being implemented in Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Tripura.
- Among all the six projects Perumbakkam project in Tamil Nadu has the highest number of housing units.
