Human Rights Day - 10 December

  • Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.
  • The date was chosen to mark the  adoption  of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights   on 10 December 1948,  in  the UNGA.
  • The Theme for the year 2017 is Let’s stand up for equality, justice and human dignity.
  • This year, Human Rights Day kicks off a year-long campaign to mark the upcoming 70th anniversaryof the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  • In addition, it is traditionally on 10 December that the five-yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel Peace Prize are awarded.
