Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December.
The date was chosen to mark the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights on 10 December 1948, in the UNGA.
The Theme for the year 2017 is Let’s stand up for equality, justice and human dignity.
This year, Human Rights Day kicks off a year-long campaign to mark the upcoming 70th anniversaryof the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In addition, it is traditionally on 10 December that the five-yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights and Nobel Peace Prize are awarded.
