An expert team of Indian Air Force (IAF) mountaineers led by Capt R C Tripathi has returned after successfully hoisting the Indian Tricolor and the IAF flag on Mount Vinson, the highest peak of Antarctica.
Before Mt Vinson, different teams of the Air Force had summited Mt Everest (Asia), Mt Carstenz Pyramid (Indonesia- Australasia continent), Mt Elbrus (Russia-Europe), Mt Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mt Aconcagua (Argentina-South America), Mt McKinley/Denali (Alaska-North America) over the last two decades.
IAF becomes first defense body to summit all major seven peaks across seven continents.
The IAF Mission Seven Summits was launched in 2008 with an aim to hoist the National Tricolour on the highest mountains of all seven continents.
