Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS)
It is a voluntary initiative that seeks to increase maritime co-operation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues.
Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) was started as an initiative by Indian Navy in 2008 and it has now grown into a formidable organisation with 23 ‘Member’ nations and ‘Nine’ observer countries.
Bangladesh is the current chair of IONS and is conducting the first ever operational exercise called ‘IMMSAREX’ under the IONS Charter.
