Implementation of Prime Minister Research Fellows Scheme

  • The Union Cabinet has approved implementation of the 'Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme' for a period of seven years beginning from Financial Year 2018-19at total cost of Rs. 1650 crore.
  • The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget Speech 2018-19.
  • Under this scheme,
    • The best students who have completed or are in the final year of B. Tech or Integrated M.Tech or M.Sc. in S&T streams from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), will be offered direct admission in PhD programme in the IITs/IISc.
  • The scheme will help tapping talent pool of country for carrying out research indigenously in cutting edge science and technology domains.
