Increasing reservation ratio

  • The Reservation Amendment Bill, seeking an increase in reservations in government jobs and educational institutions in Bihar, was passed recently.
  • It aims to raise quotas for Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state.
  • This will increase reservations for the SC, ST, OBC and Extremely Backward Classes, to 65 per cent in the state.
  • This is increase from the 50 per cent ceiling set by the Supreme Court.
  • Currently, there is 18 per cent reservation for EBCs, 12 per cent for OBCs, 16 per cent for SCs, 1 per cent for STs and 3 percent for women from backward classes in Bihar in state jobs and educational institutions.
  • The new proposal is SC- 20%, ST - 2%, OBC and EBC- 43%.
