The Reservation Amendment Bill, seeking an increase in reservations in government jobs and educational institutions in Bihar, was passed recently.
It aims to raise quotas for Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state.
This will increase reservations for the SC, ST, OBC and Extremely Backward Classes, to 65 per cent in the state.
This is increase from the 50 per cent ceiling set by the Supreme Court.
Currently, there is 18 per cent reservation for EBCs, 12 per cent for OBCs, 16 per cent for SCs, 1 per cent for STs and 3 percent for women from backward classes in Bihar in state jobs and educational institutions.
The new proposal is SC- 20%,ST - 2%, OBC and EBC- 43%.
