India - ASEAN Troika Trade Ministers Meet

  • India – ASEAN Troika Trade Ministers’ meeting was held in New Delhi today for informal consultation on the ongoing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
  • The meeting was attended by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal.
  • He stressed that market access issues with China for Indian goods have been particularly problematic.
  • RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement between
    • 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)
    • 6 Indo-Pacific states with which ASEAN has existing free trade agreements (China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand).
