India - Bhutan diplomatic relations

  • The Golden Jubilee of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan is being celebrated in the year 2018.
  • Earlier, to mark this occasion, India and Bhutan jointly unveiled the ‘logo for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in Thimphu and New Delhi through video conference.
  • Meshed together in an unbreakable bond, the logo has two symbols of the countries- 5 is represented with Bhutan’s national color wrapped in dragon; while 0 (zero) is completed by the India’s tri-color.  It highlights 50th anniversary of friendship.
  • Diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan were established in 1968 with the establishment of a special office of India in Thimphu.
  • The basic framework of India- Bhutan bilateral relations was the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 1949 between the two countries, which was revised in February 2007.
