- Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the 6th India region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference at Patna in Bihar.
- The conference held discussions mainly on two topics,
- 'Parliament's role in the development agenda'
- 'Legislature and Judiciary - Two Important Pillars of Democracy'
- India region CPA conferences are held once in two years. The 5th Conference was held in 2015 in Goa.
- The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), previously known as the Empire Parliamentary Association, is an organisation which works to support good governance, democracy and human rights.
- It is divided into nine regions – Africa, Asia, Australia, British Islands and Mediterranean, Canada, Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic, India, Pacific and South-East Asia.
- The India region of CPA consists of the India Union Branch (Parliament of India) and 31 State/Union Territory branches.
