India to host 36th International Geological Congress in 2020

India is going to host 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) in 2020 in NCR New Delhi.
Nearly after 6 decades India is going to host this Congress.
The event is being jointly funded by the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Earth Sciences with the active support of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), and the Science Academies of the other neighbouring co-host countries, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
IGC
IGC is described as the Olympics of Geosciences, held quadrennially under the aegis of the IUGS through a process of global bidding.
The IGC is prestigious conclave of geoscientists across the World.
The 35th IGC held at Cape Town, South Africa in 2016.
IUGS
The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) is an international non-governmental organizationdevoted to international cooperation in the field of geology.
Founded in Paris.
Secretariat in Beijing, China.
IUGS has partnered with UNESCO for UNESCO’s Earth science programme.
