August 31 , 2023 446 days 399 0
  • A report by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology highlights that the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) index has exceeded the positive threshold.
  • IOD refers to the shift in sea-surface temperatures from warm to cool in the Indian Ocean basin to the South of Sri Lanka.
  • Warmer in the western side of the basin is referred to as a positive IOD event, while the reverse indicates a negative event.
  • A positive IOD event has boosted the performance of India’s South-West monsoon.
  • IOD index must remain above the threshold for a sustained period before it can declare a positive event.
