India’s first air-conditioned suburban train service

  • India’s first broad gauge air-conditioned (AC) EMU suburban train was flagged off from Borivali station on western railway in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • The train, operated by the Western Railway (WR), began its journey from the Borivili station to Churchgate in South Mumbai.
  • The first of its kind air-conditioned suburban local train fitted with an indigenous three-phase propulsion system." was brought to Mumbai from the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.
  • It is also equipped with GPS-based passenger information system with audio-visual indication of stations for guard-driver and passenger communication.
