Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration – Chandi Prasad Bhatt

Noted environmentalist and pioneer of the Chipko movement, Chandi Prasad Bhatt has been awarded the Indira Gandhi award for National Integration.
The award was instituted by the Congress party in memory of the late prime minister.
Bhatt has been awarded the award for the years 2017 and 2018 for his “services in promoting and preserving national integration in the country”.
About CP Bhatt
He had founded the cooperative organisation Dasholi Gram Swarajya Sangh and led the first Chipko movement in Mandal, Uttrakhand in 1973.
He is also a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1982 for community leadership, Padma Shri in 1986, Padma Bushan in 2005 and Gandhi peace Prize in 2013.
