- Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has launched Navy's first new stealth frigate, INS ‘Nilgiri’, at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai.
- It is the first of the Navy's seven new stealth frigates under Project 17A.
- Project 17A frigates is a design derivative of the Shivalik class stealth frigates.
- They have much more advanced stealth features and indigenous weapons and sensors.
