India will formally commission its first home-built aircraft carrier at Kochi’s Cochin Shipyard Limited.
It was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a Public Sector Shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.
The largest ship ever constructed in India’s maritime history is the INS Vikrant.
The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier bears the name of its esteemed predecessor, India’s first aircraft carrier, which had an important role to play in the war of 1971.
The INS Vikrant however will not have its own fleet of fighter jets on deck.
It will rely on a few Russian-designed aircraft borrowed from India's only other carrier, the INS Vikramaditya.
