- Maharashtra has bagged the inaugural Inspiring Regional Leadership award.
- It was given at the Under2 Coalition General Assembly that coincided with the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) summit in Glasgow, Scotland.
- Maharashtra joined the global Under2 Coalition of regional governments for greenhouse gases emissions mitigation in July.
- It also received “high commendations” in two other categories - Climate Partnerships and Creative Climate Solutions.
- British Columbia and Québec in Canada won awards in these two categories.
- The Under2 Coalition is among the largest global network of states and regions committed to climate action.
- Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, and Bengal are also part of that coalition.
