- The theme for International Albinism Awareness Day 2018 is: “shining our light to the world”.
- The International Albinism Awareness Day is observed to preserve the rights of persons with albinism and take efforts to ensure equal access for them in employment, education, justice, and good health.
- Albinism is a genetic condition that causes very little or no pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes.
- In 2014, the UN General Assembly declared 13 June as International Albinism Awareness Day with effect from 2015.
