  • Blasphemy, in a religious sense, refers to great disrespect shown to God or to something believed as holy.
  • The open criticism of religion is criminalized in many countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
  • Blasphemy Day was introduced as a worldwide celebration in 2009.
