- The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 took a decision to celebrate this day.
- It is popularly known as World Heritage Day.
- It is approved by UNESCO in 1983 during its 22nd General Conference.
- This day is to celebrate the cultural and natural heritage of the world and raise awareness about the importance of preserving and protecting these invaluable treasures for future generations.
- The theme for this year is “Heritage Changes.”
