International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem - July 26

  • It seeks to raise awareness on importance of mangrove ecosystems.
  • Mangroves are considered as “a unique, special and vulnerable ecosystem”.
  • UNESCO had adopted this day in 2015.
  • As per Forest Survey Report 2021, Mangrove cover in India has increased by 17 square km as compared to 2019 assessment.
  • It is now spread to 4,992 square km.
