The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is being observed every year across the World on 25th November.
The theme of the day for the year 2018 is “Orange the World: #HearMeToo”.
The 25th of every month has been designated as Orange Day by the UN Women campaign ‘Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women’ launched in 2009.
The day is commemorated in the memory of the 3 Mirabal sisters, political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally assassinated during the Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship in 1960.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on February 7, 2000, officially designated the day on November 25.
