International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - 25 November

  • The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is being observed every year across the World on 25th November.
  • The theme of the day for the year 2018 is “Orange the World: #HearMeToo”.
  • The 25th of every month has been designated as Orange Day by the UN Women campaign ‘Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women’ launched in 2009.
  • The day is commemorated in the memory of the 3 Mirabal sisters, political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally assassinated during the Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship in 1960.
  • The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on February 7, 2000, officially designated the day on November 25.
