- The international day for the elimination of violence against women is observed annually on November 25.
- The day aims to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence and that such issues are hidden.
- The theme of observance for 2019 is "Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape".
- The first such day observed by Latin American and Caribbean feminists on November 25, 1981.
- The UN formally recognised the day in 1999.
