International Day for Tolerance – November 16

  • It is an annual observance day declared by UNESCO in 1995 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance.
  • In 1995, to mark the United Nations Year for Tolerance and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, UNESCO created a prize for the promotion of tolerance and non-violence.
  • It is known as the UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence.
  • ‘Centre Résolution Conflicts’ in Democratic Republic of Congo will be the winner of the 2020 Edition.
